Today’s Scents of Self Birthday Giveaway: 20 Bond No. 9 Samples!

Sorry y’all, my kitten Zelda wasn’t feeling  particularly inclined to participate in this photo shoot. Here is a relevant Lolcat instead!

Today’s giveaway: 20, count ’em, 20 Bond No. 9 samples from the rather massive collection of Bond samples that I have acquired by relentlessly harassing Saks Fifth Avenue salespeople over the course of five years. All samples are in their original bottles and have been used only once, or not at all. These samples are: I Love New York For All, Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue, West Side, Andy Warhol Success Is A Job In New York, Park Avenue, Broadway Nite, Fire Island, Saks Fifth Avenue For Her, Chelsea Flowers, The Scent of Peace, Nuits de Noho, New York Oud, Bond No. 9 Perfume, Washington Square, Eau de New York, Bond No. 9 High Line, Bond No. 9 Astor Place, and Bond No. 9 Hamptons.

This sample pack is a great idea for those who, ahem, may not wish to directly financially support Bond No. 9, but are still interested in some of its fragrances. This giveaway is open to anyone, regardless of location. To enter, please leave a comment telling me some of your favorite mainstream and niche perfume houses. This giveaway will be closed on Friday, November 4th, at midnight. Good luck! May the Force be with you!

  1. Oh delightful. Favourite mainstream perfume houses are Guerlain, Chanel, Hermes. Niche would be Santa Maria Novella & Amouage — those are still considered niche aren’t they? I know I can’t find them but in 2 places locally. The line blurs for me these days on what is ‘mainstream’ or not.

    1. My pleasure! I was thinking of you when I made this giveaway. I remember you saying that you were somewhat curious about the Bonds, but not enough to go out of the way for them. Now they can come to you!

  2. Ooh, want! Favorite mainstream: Estee Lauder. Favorite niche: Tauer Perfumes, Sonoma Scent Studios, and By Kilian.

  3. Happy, happy 1st anniversary of your blog, Ari! Thanks for adding to my perfume blog-reading happiness!

As to favorite houses – Guerlain, Chanel, Hermes, L’Artisan, and By Kilian.

    Cheers to another great year!

  4. Hooray for perfume samples!

My favorite mainstreams are Chanel and Guerlain. I’m wearing a sample of Guerlain’s Flora Nymphea today, loving the honey note. My favorite niche would be Tauer. Ari, I loved the Iris Poudre you sent me for the Zelda roomba sale, but unfortunately, it was the only sample that made it safe to Colorado. I have no idea what the other samples were because they were glass powder, so sad! Congratulations on your blog anniversary!

    1. Oh my God, Jenn, I’m so sorry! Did the Shalimar make it in good condition?? How did you like it? Thank you for the congratulations and for entering the giveaway!

      1. The Shalimar was absolutely perfect, and I love the bottle! I like that the EdC has a slightly different vanilla than the EdP. The EdC, while still gorgeous, is a little more masculine/assertive with its vanilla. I think it’s very interesting that different concentrations can highlight different notes in the fragrance. Thanks again!

  5. P.S. Don’t worry about the broken samples, I was so happy to receive Iris Poudre and Shalimar! Rumor has it that the Denver area has the worst postal service, so it’s not your fault in the slightest.

    1. Thank you Jenn, I feel terrible but if you’re content to blame it on the Denver postal service then I’m happy to go along with that! I’m so glad that the Shalimar was safe and that you found it interesting. I believe the other sample was Shalimar Parfum Initial, since I thought you might want to try other forms of Shalimar too. But if only one sample had to survive, I’m glad it was Iris Poudre.

  6. happy 1st anniversary of your blog and many happy returns
I would like to try the Bonds- I have no other way, except winning this( so generous, thank you) draw
My favs are Guerlain, Hermes, Lutens, andy Tauer ( but there are many I could not try…yet)

    thanks again
My regards to Zelda Fitzgerald- would be glad to see more pictures, whenever she’ll feel like…

    1. Thank you so much, Irina! Since you have no access to Bonds, even if you don’t win the giveaway, I would be more than happy to send you a few. This goes for anyone else who would otherwise not be able to try them, too. Giving people presents is my crack.

I have many, many pictures of Zelda, but the vast majority are blurry. She just does not sit still.

      1. this is very , very kind and generous of you- thank you !
I do understand the problems you have with Zelda, I, myself can’t get a really good picture of my cat, Dagobert,- he’s just all black and always looks like a black pool of something…but I keep trying ( and deleteing)

  7. Happy Anniversary! Favorite mainstream houses are Guerlain, Rochas, & Balmain. Niche favorite is Sonoma Scent Studio, for sure. Thank you for the drawing.

  8. I have tried SiaJiNY and it was amazing. Most of the others I have tried where simply forgettable.

Favourite mainstream house would be Hermes and vintage Jil Sander. Favourite niche (if you ‘ve come across my blog you know it…) Serge Lutens, Montale, Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier, Divine, Nasomatto.

I am reading this only moments after I got a call from my vet. My kitty, Toupée, just had her spaying operation and she has recovered from anaesthesia. She is hissing and puffing and scaring the vet away. She will be back with us tomorrow afternoon. I only pray she forgives me soon…

    1. I have your blog bookmarked! 🙂 I also found SiaJiNY to be very distinctive.

Poor Toupée!!! It is a shame they couldn’t keep her under anesthesia for a little longer, it sounds like! I hope she has a smooth and easy transition back home. The shelter from which I adopted Zelda wouldn’t let me adopt her without having her spayed first, but it sounds like that is not usually the case.

      1. Oh my goodness, what a trooper! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you find out about the other 11 kitties? (Poor 11 kitties!!!!)

  9. A friend found her with her three siblings. She saved them from a garbage bin and took her to another cat who had a litter of 8. Some died and some where the victims of male cats (male cats do that you know). We took Toupée home as soon as she was able to eat solid food. She never stopped eating since. Unlike Zelda she is a poser. Whenever I try to photograph a bottle she jumps into the frame. I couldn’t resist giving her her 15 minutes of fame and I posted a photo of her tail on my Equistrius/ Citta di Kyoto post.

    1. Ha! She has a very cute tail! Are there any pictures of the rest of her? Sounds like there must be many! I had no idea that male cats hurt kittens. Why do they do it? Just to fight? They don’t eat the kittehs, do they???

      1. At the risk of freaking readers out, they do eat parts. All wild cats do that and I mean lions and such. They are extremely protective of their sovereignty of the herd so they kill cubs to avoid losing a future fight for kingdom.

There are several photos of her. I owe her a full body photo in one of my future post. She loves rubbing against me and sleeping on my lap so her fur always smell of something I have worn. But the best smell in the world is the her fur smelled for the first months. Simply amazing! Please someone put that in a bottle!

  10. What a generous giveaway! They closed the only Saks here in San Diego a few years ago, so I haven’t had the chance to try many Bonds (although I have gotten several in swaps and splits). Favorite mainstream is Hermes. It’s so hard to know what is niche these days, but I’ll say Atelier.

    1. Thank you so much, Odonata! San Diego definitely has the short end of the stick when it comes to California perfume shopping, you poor things.

      1. It’s surprising, although I guess SD isn’t that big of a city. We do have a Neiman Marcus and Hermes, but that is about it! I guess I have the option to drive up to LA and go crazy at the scent bar and Barney’s and all the other spots we don’t have. Can’t complain too much since it’s about 75 degrees outside right now (don’t hate – I am from MD so I had my share of cold weather. PG county represent!).

  11. Oooh what a generous giveaway!

My favourite mainstream house is no surprise whatsoever, it is Thierry Mugler! As far as mainstream houses go they cannot be beat.

Niche is a little bit harder, I am a bit of an Etat Libre d’Orange fan boy, but I also like Malle, Amouage, By Kilian and Lutens. It’s so hard! I’ll go with ELD’O.

    1. No, it’s better that you listed more! I asked because I wanted to get a sense of which brands people were most interested in hearing about. I just tried all of the “foodie” Muglers the other day, they were very interesting. Thank you for entering!

  12. Wheee! Happy belated birthday, Scents of Self! Here’s to many more.

(No need to enter me in the giveaway.)

  13. I love your reasoning for why someone might be interested in this giveaway. It’s party that, but also as a newbie perfumista I’ve not yet worked up the nerve to “relentlessly harass” salespeople for samples. So, I’d love to benefit from your hard work.

Favourite mainstream: Dior ( esp. pre-reformulation), Chanel. Estee Lauder
Favourite niche (so far): Tauer, Sonoma Scent Studio, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz

Looking forward to your new year of reviews.

  14. Great giveaway!

Favorite mainstream- Chanel Cristalle Verte and 19, MJ Daisy, Balenciaga

Niche: Miller Harris Feuilles Tabac, Serge Lutens, Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio

only tried a few Bond scents in Harrods- but interested in seeing if any pique my interest.

  15. Happy 1st anniversary, and what a lovely giveaway!

    Favourite mainstream: Guerlain, Chanel, Dior.

Niche: Serge Lutens, L’Artisan, Ormonde Jayne, Parfumerie Generale.

  16. I’m just getting started on my pursuit of the ultimate perfume wardrobe. I’m such a novice that my list is rather short. Right now I’m enjoying Theirry Mugler, Bvlgari and Chanel. I stumbled upon Penhaligon’s while on a recent vacation to London and I have been savoring my sampler kit ever since. I’ve only had the opportunity to catch a whiff of one of Bond No. 9 scents, on a friend, Hamptons, but I could only politely sniff her wrist for a moment, before it turned creepy. I’d LOVE the chance to expand my horizons and experience more of the rather extensive collection.

I’m grateful for your blog and others for giving me some background research as I keep searching and sniffing…..

(My large and ridiculous dogs think Roomba was created merely to torment them. I’m sure they’d love to send it to your kitty and rid themselves of the horror.)

      1. I guess the novice discovery portion of this exploration is fun, but I get impatient to try everything with limited opportunities to do so! I read about so many intriguing reviews on the unique and wildly entertaining blogs devoted to perfume. I ADORE reading The Candy Perfume Boy and find the reviews to be compelling and very much in accord with my preferences.

My list of Must Try scents is ever growing as I keep reading and keep adding and reading and adding…..

  17. My favorite mainstream houses might have to be Bvlgari and Hermes.
Some brands that rank among the top in the niche category are Comme Des Garcons, Sonoma Scent Studios, and Montale.

Congrats on Scents of Self turning two!

  18. Ooooh, I’d love to win these. Favorite mainstream houses are Guerlain and Mugler. Favorite niche houses are Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle, and Montale.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  19. Once again, happy blogoversary!

My favorite mainstream brands are Chanel, Thierry Mugler and Jo Malone; niche – Ormonde Jayne, Amouage and Frederic Malle.

No need entering me into the draw.
