Happy Inauguration/MLK Jr. Day, y’all! I was so excited to go down to the Inauguration today, but I woke up with lymph nodes the size of L’Artisan Amber balls. So here’s a quick perfume poll before the NyQuil kicks in! What perfume will you be wearing on this fine Inauguration day?Ā I decided on a scent from a quintessentially American brand: Estee Lauder Youth Dew. It’s pretty much the only thing strong enough for me to smell right now! Usual disclaimer: you may be political in the comments, but you must also be polite.
I’m actually at work today because I work for a contractor down in Falls Church, which apparently is far enough removed from DC to justify being open. The plus side of working on Inauguration Day is there was no one on 66 this morning. SOTD is actually Chanel No. 5. I’ve been sick these past several days courtesy of that roadtrip I made a week ago — let me just state that -5 degrees was something I was entirely unprepared for — so I wasn’t feeling very creative this morning and wanted something familiar and No. 5 is one of my comfort scents.
Hope you feel better, darling.Otherwise, we can just languish in misery together. My cold remedy has been bourbon mixed w/ hot tea & honey, like you do.
Thank you so much for the get-well wishes, A, and I send them right back to you! No. 5 is unbeatable when you’re feeling miserable. I was following your midwest road trip on Twitter with interest (and, I hope you don’t mind me saying, no small amount of amusement.)
I’m off from work and heading into NYC with mom. Since I’ll be out and about in the cold, I decided on Diptyque Volutes EDP and it is absolutely perfect.
I hope you feel better!
Thank you so much, Hajusuuri! I tried Volutes EDP for the first time yesterday and liked it immediately. Just right for cold winter days!
I hope you feel better but, I had to laugh at the description of your lymph nodes š I wore Guerlain, Iris Ganache today but, not because of the inauguration. I guess I feel a little too removed from it all to consider. If I was going to attend I would have to pick something from a good American brand, maybe Pear & Olive by Slumberhouse or Copper Skies from Kerosene (always great for out in the cold!).
Thank you, dubaiscents! You know, I only got to try Iris Ganache twice (and both times were brief). I really wish I’d had a chance to get to know it better before it was discontinued. Need to try Copper Skies soon, too- I love the story behind the Kerosene brand!
Sorry you couldn’t go to the inauguration, but cracking up at lymph nodes the size of those amber balls! Get some rest and feel better.
Kids off for MLK day so going to the mall to buy some jeans for my son. Will see what I can find to sniff when I walk through Macys.
Thank you, Barbara! A reader recently commented that there’s been some good stuff in Macy’s lately, including the leather Womanity.
Hope you feel better!
Thank you so much, poodle! I just feel lucky to be getting sick BEFORE the spring semester rather than during.
Hope you’re feeling better soon! Get as much rest as you can, I know that’s difficult to do with a full school schedule. I always have Mondays off, but my DH went to work in The City today. I tried to talk him into stopping by the Hermes boutique to pick up a sample of Jour d’Hermes for me. I’m wearing a sample of Amouage Gold. It’s beautiful, but just not my thing.
Thank you so much, Tatiana! Did your husband oblige you? š I’m dying to try Jour d’Hermes, too. I know just what you mean about Amouage Gold- I admire it immensely, but can’t imagine actually wearing it on a regular basis.
Youth Dew! Hats off to you – that is quite a difficult one to wear convincingly in this day and age. How does it smell on you? ( I have a vintage parfum, and it is literally the strongest perfume I have ever known; practically nuclear in its diffusiveness…)
By the way, your blog is absolutely hilarious and I am really enjoying reading it.
Thank you so much, Ginza! I’m so happy and flattered that you like the blog. I’m majorly jealous of your vintage Youth Dew- my grandmother used to wear it, but she didn’t save any for me š¦
I would send you some, if I hadn’t just sent the whole bottle off to a friend in England!
I worse Lush Lust today… hadn’t even really thought about the fact that it was inauguration day. Just trying to use my day off to put out various fires around the house. I’ve been on my feet all day! In a few minutes, once I catch up on my RSS feed, I’m going to draw a bath and paint my nails š
My idea of an absolutely wonderful day!
Excellent blog post. I definitely love this website. Keep writing!
