In preparation for my upcoming massive Valentine’s Day post, I’ve been testing my more romantically-titled samples. (I desperately need to try that new Ramon Monegal, “Kiss My Name”. I don’t even know what kissing a name would entail, but I am totally into it.) Parfums de Nicolai Kiss Me Tender reminds me very strongly of one of my favorite scenes from the (frigging adorable) movie Despicable Me:
I mean, come on. This smells like marshmallows! Sweet, gooey marshmallows and an unusual touch of anise (the note list specifies the less bitter “aniseed” rather than star anise, and this anise note is distinctly sweet). I don’t smell the hay note so much as I feel it adding texture and weight to what would otherwise be an impossibly delicate fragrance. Kiss Me Tender is a dreamy, charming perfume, unquestionably perfect for Valentine’s Day or other similarly romantic occasions. If you’re a fan of Lolita Lempicka, Caron Aimez Moi, or any of those delectable anisic gourmands, you will be all over this. Before A Lab on Fire What We Do In Paris Is Secret was released last year, I would have had no qualms about declaring Kiss Me Tender the ultimate gourmand fragrance. And if you find WWDIPIS a little too warm or thick, Kiss Me Tender might be just perfect for you.
