The Perfume Blogger’s Purse: Graduation Edition

Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Face Towelettes. SOOTHING MY ASS. These burned my skin for about an HOUR after I used them. I’m only including them for historical accuracy.

Nintendo 3DS with Pokemon Black 2. My graduation present to myself! Not going to front like I didn’t catch a Pokemon or two during some of the longer speeches.

Neela Vermeire Trayee. My back-up perfume, and a gift from the truly thoughtful Neela Vermeire.

Guerlain L’Heure Bleue pure parfum. My graduation perfume. The very first perfume Drew ever complimented me on. I promised him that I would wear it so that he could be there in a small way.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube- Original. I have been waiting FOREVER for someone to figure out that the world needed a travel size version of UDPP.

UO Basics Collection Nail Polish in Sunshine. 99 CENTS AT URBAN OUTFITTERS. I repeat: 99 CENTS AT URBAN OUTFITTERS.

Nails Inc. Special Effects Sweets Way. I’ve been holding off on the “sprinkles” nail trend- it’s not terribly sophisticated, right?- but I think it’s okay for toenails not to be terribly sophisticated.

M.A.C. Blacktrack Fluidline. It was a joyous day when I first discovered that you could get a great gel eyeliner for $16 instead of Bobbi Brown’s $23.

Dior 1 Couleur Ultra Smooth High Impact Eyeshadow in Beige Print. Recently discontinued, for some hideous reason. The prettiest golden taupe in my makeup bag.

Rosebud Perfume Co Rosebud Salve in a Tube. I really prefer the texture of the original Rosebud Salve, but I also really prefer not having to stick my fingers into petroleum every thirty minutes.

M.A.C. Lustreglass Flashmode. I was originally planning to wear M.A.C Viva Glam I, but wimped out at the last minute and chose something more sheer.

What perfumes, cosmetics, and other exciting items are lurking at the bottom of your purse this weekend? Please share with us in the comments!

    1. The shade is so great, but I wish it was easier to apply! Is the Avon still available? I’m a little fuzzy on how Avon works.

      1. You can now buy Avon online, or you can still order the old-fashioned way through a rep if you know one. Every time I go home, my mom hands me her Avon catalog and asks if I want something.

So, the Avon nail polish color I thought was similar is Sunshine. Looks like it’s still available. It’s $6, although you can probably wait around for a special and get it even cheaper. I had my mom order this and another color on a lark a year or so ago. I feel like they apply really well.

  1. Yes! Those Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Face Towelettes are designed by Satan. Last Dragon*Con I bought a pack of them because I am repeatedly changing my makeup throughout the day whenever I’m at a con, so instead of washing my face every time w/ cleanser and a washcloth, I thought they would be great. Uh, yeah, nope. Not only did they burn, they also clogged my pores. Just awful.

Rosebud Perfume Co Rosebud Salve on the other hand is downright godly. I’ve been using it religiously since September 2008 when my bb Eva Green mentioned it in a beauty interview as being one of her staples, although these days I use it on my cuticles more than my lips. This is currently in my purse, as well.

Sadly, my purse is not very glamourous these days. Ever since I stopped working in DC, I carry fewer beauty items with me, even though there are 4 tubes of red lipstick in my purse at the moment. So I’ll touch on what items are worth mentioning, and not dwell on the fact that I have like a quarter inch of salt in the bottom of my purse from where a dozen or so packets gradually spilled themselves.

    – Histoiries de Parfums 1876 Mata Hari sample. On my to-buy list. Smells like Amouage Jubilation XXIV without the nasty BO cumin for a fraction of the price.
    – Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible Lipcolour. The absolute best fuchsia lipstick I’ve owned to date.
    – OPI nail polish in Seriously It’s A Naan Issue. This is a really gorgeous violet. It’s Sephora brand OPI though, which seems to not wear as well.

    1. Someone feels my paaaaaiiinnn! The wipes were so irresistible- only $2.99, and such cute packaging! NEVER AGAIN.

My list of Eva Green-approved makeup items is steadily growing, mostly thanks to you 😀

It’s a Naan Issue is a pretty amazing nail polish name. Sephora OPI application seems pretty variable (I have one, a pretty ruby named Curve-aceous), which I guess is to be expected with such a big line.

  2. What did you say you were soothing with those Face Towelettes? ;-p

I liked the idea of your purse post so much that I planned to do it myself… and since then I keep thinking that I need to re-organize my cometic bag before I make pictures… So in a year or so I’ll be able to do that. I think.

My back-up pefume I alway have with me (in a small spray vial) is Chanel No 19. But I don’t remember ever using it since I do not forget my perfumes. Other than that every day it’s a new decant. Today – Keiko Mecheri Johana.

I do not use cosmetics much so it’s just a lip pencil, lipstick and pressed powder in my bag. A small sunscreen tube – just in case since I do not leave the house without applying it first.

    1. They were for my face!!! I figured that I would get oily during the long ceremony. Oily would have been better than burning!

I would LOVE to see your purse post! Dooooo iiiitt!

  3. My daughter was going through a yellow nail polish phase last year and I remember reading on a nail polish blog that yellow is the hardest shade to apply. Wonder why? If you like that shade just use it up and save some money!

    1. I’ve read that too! I saw a gorgeous yellow polish at Clinique yesterday, but it was $16- I think I’ll stay with my Sunshine!

  4. That Yes to stuff is awful! I remember it giving me a rash! Don’t they have a Yes to Carrots something too?

In any case, this was such a fun post! Loved the sneak peek into your graduation bag. Congratulations, Ari!!!

    1. Thank you so much, Daisy! Yes, the same line has a Yes to Carrots (and Yes to a few other things, I think) branch. I definitely won’t be risking them again!

  5. Yellow nail polish, Yes! It is difficult to put on. Sorry, just saw that comment and couldn’t resist. My daughters love having their nails painted yellow, but I cannot get it on smooth. Not sure what the deal is. Anyway, I have a bit of everything in my purse. I must have my chapstik and gloss. Always some kind of lotion for those dry hands. I honestly don’t keep makeup in my purse….I end up with lots of pens at the bottom of my purse, I swear I’m a klepto when it comes to pens. SMH
