Seeking new employment. That’s the classiest way to put it, right? As of this week I am currently seeking new employment, resulting in an unprecedented amount of free time and a soul-void that can only be filled with consumerism. Perfect shopping conditions!
British Vogue, April 2014 edition. I have never spent $12 on a magazine in my life, but it’s the Nigella cover! Nigella once sent me a Direct Message on Twitter, so she is basically my adoptive mother and I need to support her in all her endeavors. The interview mentions that her new apartment is strewn with Diptyque Feu de Bois candles. My apartment is strewn with Feu de Bois candles, you guys! (Okay, candle, singular.) We have a connection, y’all.
Cire Trudon Perfumed Candle in Abd el Kader. I haven’t dared to actually burn it yet (Zelda is scary enough without access to fire), but even unused, Abd el Kader fills my room with the most mouthwatering mint scent.
Essie Nail Polish in Bikini So Teeny. At $8.00, Essie polishes make a nicely priced pick-me-up after a rough day. Which is probably why I’ve accumulated five of them since moving to New York.
Grreat Choice Foam Ball Cat Toy. Zelda loves these bouncy balls so much more than she will ever love me.
Cirque Nail Lacquer in Alter Ego. I’ve been looking for a holographic black polish forever, but even though this one is gorgeous, it’s not very impressive without direct sunlight. Might return it.
Not pictured: Etat Libre d’Orange La Fin du Monde, on its way to me from the Parfum1 warehouse. God, I love this one. It’s Tilda Swinton Like This without the syrup. It was only $64 with their 20% off sale, which ends tonight! Fly, my minions!
Have you made any exciting purchases lately? What are your rough day pick-me-ups? Any black holo polish suggestions? Please share with us in the comments!
Moving jobs Ari. I hope it’s all cool and that you are well. Good luck in the hunt and enjoy your stuff.
Portia x
Thank you so much, Portia! You have been so supportive through every job shift.
You better be in NYC in November. There’s a crew of us coming for Thanksgiving and Birgit and her family are coming too.
I can have LUNCH with you!!
Portia xx
I just bought Chergui, but it was to replace a bottle I’d used up – not very adventurous, but it did fill a soul-void. 😉
So impressed that you used up a whole bottle, Mollie! I think I love Chergui, but I can never remember if I’m thinking of Chergui or Arabie.
great choices, I feel enabled to buy La Fin du Monde now! Changes in jobs work out for the best in my experience.
La Fin du Monde for everybody!!! Can’t wait for mine to arrive!
Good luck with your job hunt, Ari!
Thank you so much, Undina! I so appreciate the good wishes.
Like This without the syrup. Oh now you had to go and make me want it, didn’t you? I was doing soooo good avoiding that coupon.
OPI had a polish called My Private Jet which was nice but I’m not sure if it is still in their collection or not. A lot of those hologram polishes are really only pretty in bright light.
I’m a big Nigella fan too. I think I have 5 of her cookbooks.
Retail therapy is helpful sometimes. I tend to buy polish and lipsticks when I need a pick me up. I have a lot of polish and lipstick. More than your thinking. Oh, and tea. I buy tea when I’m blue.
I will not apologize for the enabling! There’s nothing like La Fin du Monde, and the price was criminally good with the discount. So did you cave?? 😉
I am still behind you on Nigella, with only four cookbooks to my name. I think my favorite is Domestic Goddess; her peanut butter and jelly cookies are quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
Apparently perfumes are not the only thing subject to reformulation! My Private Jet is still around, but the new version looks much less impressive than the original: http://thatleanne.blogspot.com/2010/09/opi-my-private-jet-original-and-new.html
I’m going to have to try those cookies. She got some cranberry white chocolate ones that are good too.
How strange that the polish has changed. I’ve got the old one. I’ll have to look for it next time I’m at the supply store.
And yes, you have received another jewel in your enabler tiara. I just caved and couldn’t let that coupon expire. The hubband bought a TV so I bought more perfume.
sending all kinds of good vibes your way. p.s. i recently bought bois farina, thanks to you! and my scarf smells *divine*
This is seriously the most rewarding thing a perfume blogger can hear. I hope that you are very happy with your beautiful new perfume!
Lord! Job changes are hard! Candles, polishes and lip glosses helped me through. It will be better soon.
Candles, polishes, and lip glosses are awfully powerful talismans.
What happened that you’re on the job search again?
Hope you’ll fine a new position in no time!
That candle looks great, btw.
A story for a future date, Lucas! The candle is just wonderful, excellent projection. I’m also considering the Phaedon Reglisse candle, which smells just like Lolita Lempicka!
Hey, I’m seeking new employment too (after a January layoff). Well, not seeking exactly, because I know what I want to pursue, which is my dream! I hope you are well and will soon find exactly what you want. ~ Patty
Thank you so much, Patty! I’m sorry to hear about your layoff and wish the same for you!
Good Luck in the job search Ari. You should have no problem changing your current status in no time! xoxox Steve
Thank you so much, Steve! And it’s nice to have a little free time in the meantime.
Good luck with the job search, Ari. Nigella is a worthy hero, she is a class act!
Good luck in the job search. I hope everything works out well for you! I got a sample of Fin du Monde recently.. haven’t made up my mind about it yet. For something called “End of the World”, I think I was expecting something bigger, or weirder or something.
The candles sound nice. I have smelled the Feu de Bois candle and I really like it, but I don’t know if I’ve seen that Cire Trudon one. I’m sure they’re wonderful, but I’ve never been able to bring myself to drop that kind of money on a candle.
