Happy World Gin Day, y’all! The less gin-soaked among you might remember that this fine holiday was actually last Saturday, but every day is World Gin Day in our hearts. To celebrate, I’ve rated the gin-tensity of five gin-themed perfumes from one bottle of Hendricks to five bottles. Cheers!
Atelier Cologne Cedrat Envirant
The mouthwatering Cedrat Envirant is based on the gin-champagne-lemon juice combination of the classic French 75 cocktail, but unlike a real French 75, the juniper note is just a whisper beneath the sparkling lime opening.
TokyoMilk Gin & Rosewater
Bombay Sapphire with a bright, girly rose note. If pink gin existed, this is what it would smell like.
Lubin Gin Fizz
Phyllis Diller, of blessed memory, famously declared that “the only time I ever enjoyed ironing was the day I accidentally got gin in the steam iron.” Gin Fizz smells like that happy accident: a soft juniper note mingling with the hiss of hot steam.
Frapin L’Humaniste
Gin and tonic with lots of pepper. I find this one a little boring, but my brief time selling Frapin suggests that half of New York’s mixologists wear it.
Frederic Malle Angeliques Sous La Pluie
The ultimate gin fragrance. Gincylopedia Brittanica. Gindiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Angeliques Sous La Pluie roars with crushed juniper berries. Hard to believe that this intense, earthy fragrance is a Jean-Claude Ellena creation.
Is the Penhaligons not worthy of consideration?
I do like a gin and tonic (it is my ritual when I first get on a plane), but they do give me a real, heavy headache.
Aaargh, I forgot Juniper Sling!!! It’s totally worthy of being on this list.
How many bottles would it get?
I can’t comment on the first four fragrances, but I own and love FM Angeliques Sous La Pluie. For me it wears crisp, light and refreshing. Love it on a hot day.
I would LOVE a bottle for the summer, but I think my Malle pennies will be going to En Passant instead.
Hey there Arielle,
Love your Gin post. Great to see you pop up in my email.
Hope all is swell.

Thank you for your incredibly generous support, Portia.

A shot of Cedrat Enivrant for me please
I’m really loving my Cedrat Envirant decant this summer!
oh yes!
I’ve had Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling in my wish-list for ages, but it’s great to learn about more gin-inspired scents. I think I’ve fallen in love with your description of Lubin Gin Fizz ♥
I’m thrilled to introduce you to Gin Fizz, superqueen! Juniper Sling is stronger and fresher, both are completely lovely.
I’ve already tried Juniper Sling and I totally love it, but Gin Fizz sounds intriguing, too. I think I’ll go with JS first, but I really want to try GF, sooner or later.
I do love a G&T, as well, but massive migraines result, so I only indulge in gin perfumes. Great list!
Thank you, Julie! Migraines are so brutal- I’m glad you’re still able to enjoy perfumes without activating them!
Gin, glorious gin! I love this post my dear. Must try that Malle the next time I get samples.
Thank you very much, Poodle! I’d be happy to pass my sample on to you- I rarely wear samples after reviewing them, in an attempt to make a dent in my actual bottles.
I might take you up on that.
I love me a G&T, and think Lubin’s Gin Fizz comes closest to the fragrance. Clinique’s Wrappings (that perfume that’s only available at holiday time) also has a juniper note.
I miss Wrappings every single year! 😦
I need to revisit my Angelique sample now–somehow in my head I have it associated with licorice. (Which is not a favorite, though I know most people like it and clearly I am unsophisticated! I tried By Killian’s Pure Oud once–*gargantuan* heap of burning black licorice. It is now wrapped in several plastic bags and segregated from the rest of my stash 😀 . [If anyone wants it, let me know! I think. I may be afraid to touch it. Amber Oud is gorgeous, though!])
No licorice in Angeliques that I can remember, you’re safe! Licorice and anise are such tricky notes in perfumery- like, I love Lolita Lempicka, but Kerosene Black Vines makes me nauseous.
