Atelier Cologne Rendez-Vous: Review and Giveaway!

The good: Rendez-Vous is stunning. A joyful burst of bright, juicy apricot and the softest leather. I’ve smelled vintage Iris Gris twice, from The Non-Blonde‘s precious vintage bottle. It was the most beautiful perfume I’ve ever smelled. Rendez-Vous instantly reminded me of Iris Gris and its famous peach note, made a touch fruitier for modern tastes. Rendez-Vous has great presence and good lasting power. This is the best new release of the year, no question.

The bad: Rendez-Vous is exclusive to Neiman Marcus and Atelier Cologne boutiques. Worse, it’s currently only available in a THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLAR set containing a 200 ml and a 30 ml bottle. This distribution strategy is particularly bizarre coming from Atelier Cologne, which has always been celebrated for offering perfumista-friendly 30 ml bottles. A somewhat sneaky solution is to request Rendez-Vous as the complimentary 30 ml bottle that Atelier Cologne provides with the purchase of any 200 ml bottle, but I really hope that we’ll eventually be able to buy the 30 ml separately.

The giveaway: I have an extra sample of Rendez-Vous for you! If you’d like to enter the giveaway, please leave a comment telling us your favorite Atelier Cologne fragrance (or the one you’d most like to try, if you’re unfamiliar with the line). This giveaway is open to U.S. and international readers. I’ll close the giveaway at 12 AM this Friday, and announce the winner later in the day.

  1. I really like Vanilla Insense which came with a tiny bottle of orange sanguine (also lovely). Its tough to pick one, I really want to try them all. I wish they would open this to other stores. I will look for it at Niemans. Thank you for the give away. I tried DSH’s Scent of Hope. I really like it too.

  2. Haven’t smelled any. I’d love to try Cedrat Enivrant. (*finger now crossed for the Rendez-Vouz sample*)

  3. I’m unfamiliar with any scents from this line, but this sounds like an amazing one to start with! (Or, in a tip of the hat to my fourth grade teacher: It sounds like an amazing one with which to start!) Thanks, Ari, for being so generous and to the mysterious Robert–who should get extra credit from Atelier as a marketing guru!

  4. Wow, what a generous giveaway! Apricot? Leather? I’m sold! So far my favorite Atelier is Rose Anonyme, which is a great compliment to them, because I am not much of a rose perfume person!

  5. Vanille Insensee is my fave right now, but as a full-fledged iris slut, it’ll likely be replaced by this. As far as the distribution goes, my only response is “Atelier, why you hurt me so??

  6. Hi Ari!
    How are you?

I have a nice relationship with Atelier Cologne but they didn’t tell me anything about Rendezvous, even about the plans of launching it. I only received a much detailed information about Santal Carmin and Blanche Immortelle.

I suppose that Rendezvous is not available as 30ml separately because it’s a part of Collection Metal and Atelier doesn’t offer separate 30ml petit flacons of collection metal (however I know there are plans to make coffrets of small bottles from this line).

Too bad it’s so exclusive because neither NM nor AC boutiques are available in Poland. Or maybe does online boutique count as A “boutique” too?

My favorite atelier cologne is Silver Iris. Thanks a lot for this sweet draw. (I live in Poland)

  7. Yup, don’t like the marketing strategy for this new metallics line of theirs. But I’d love to win a sample. Favourite Atelier is Vanilla Insensee, but my crushed sample vial of Rose Anonyme left a pretty good smell behind on the postcard.
Thanks to you and Robert for the draw opportunity.

  8. After that glowing review I want to try this. I haven’t found a true love in this line yet but to be honest haven’t tried many. I think I liked Gold Leather a bit. I do love the metallic bottles.

  9. Rendez-vous sounds really nice. I’ll have to check it out next time I’m at Neiman Marcus. The most recent one I smelled was Blanche Immortelle, which was nice, but reminded me a lot of AG Sables, which I already have. My favorites from the line are Vanille Insensee and Rose Anonyme, but I like Silver Iris and Gold Leather too.

An SA at Neiman Marcus told me they’re phasing out the 30ml bottles by themselves and switching to only offering them as an extra with the 200ml bottle. Annoying. Now if they offered a 30ml coffrett, even better if it was a mix-and-match thing where you could pick which ones you want, I might be interested. But I can’t even fathom buying 200ml of anything, except if I were going to split it.

    1. Jennifer, you will be glad to hear that Atelier is NOT phasing out the 30 mls (though they’re not currently offering them in Rendez-Vous or Sous le toit de Paris). I had an email exchange with Robert Colannino of the Brooklyn Atelier store yesterday, and he said that while some of their retail partners might elect not to stock the 30 mls., they will always be available on the website.

Also, I don’t know if this is what you were looking for, but they offer a set of 5 30 ml bottles that they will mix and match for you: http://www.ateliercologne.com/gift-boxes/coffret-collection/coffret-collection.html

This is on my wish list! 🙂

  10. Wow! I love peachy/apricot notes, so I’d most want to try this one! I like the Atelier line, but haven’t tried them all. Rendezvous shot to the top of my to try list! But 200ml bottles are ridiculous. Seriously, even a normal person would find that much perfume daunting.

  11. Since I have NM close by, do not enter me into the giveaway – more chances to those with limited access, I’ll test it at the store when I go there next time. I am really disagree with the new sizes for the Collection Metal but I think they know their audience in NM and it works for them.

  12. I own Grand Neroli, Vanille Insensee, Sous Le Toit de Paris and Silver Iris. I like this line!! Grand Neroli is my fave, the one I wear most often.

  13. Oh dear, I’d love to win the sample, but fear falling in love with it when my wallet is so thin. I haven’t tried anything by this line, so I’m intrigued.

  14. I do believe that Rendez-Vous might be the one I most want to try currently as well 🙂 I love osmanthus! Thank you.

  15. Been thinking of you and your brother.

I haven’t tried the real Iris Gris, but recently sampled DSH Perfumes’ rendition: nice. I’m just reminded that even “friendly” iris isn’t a favorite note of mine. (Oh well. There are other things to love.)

  16. Juicy apricot and the softest leather? Count me in!!!
I own Orange Sanguine and love it but my favorite probably is Cedrat Enivrant.
    Thanks for the draw!

  17. I haven’t tried any atelier cologne, but definitely would like to smell this one!! Thanks to your reviews I bought Lolita Lempicka and loved it!

  18. Of the ones I’ve tried, Trefle Pur and Orange sanguine are my favorites. I’d love to try this one and Cedrat Enivrant. Too bad they no longer carry them at my local NM. And 200 ml bottles? That is ridiculous.

  19. This sounds just luscious. And intriguing; I read somewhere that this was five years in the making. Although I haven’t been able to sample it properly, Bois Blonds has me intrigued, but my current favorite is Cedrat Enivrant.

  20. OMG, Ari, I hope I am not late, because I looooove Atelier Cologne fragrances.
My favorites are Oolang Infini, Orange Sanguine and Mistral Patchouli. I haven’t tried the Collection Métal, Cedrat Envirant and Santal Carmin. And Rendez-Vous, of course, but it’s understandable due to its exclusivity. Thanks for the giveway!
