Almost packed for Sniffapalooza, where I am so excited to be speaking/mumbling/staring at the crowd in quiet terror this year! As perfume packing goes, three scents is awfully light. But this is a New York trip, also known as a Kinokuniya/Nintendo World/Aedes de Venustas trip. Every inch of packing space counts! So, when forced to whittle, my minimum is one refreshing scent (Hermessence Osmanthus Yunnan), one sexier scent (the full-throttle Roja Dove Amber Aoud), and one piece of perfume armor (my beloved Jo Malone Black Vetyver Cafe). What’s your perfume packing strategy?

Ok, now that’s just showing off, packing so far in advance you have time to deploy a “strategy” 😉 In solidarity with my fellow packing procrastinators, I will say that any perfume that comes with me tends to be grabbed on the way out the door from a tin I keep of whatever samples and decants I’ve been wearing lately. At least this usually means my favorites make the trip? 🙂
Oh yes- nothing says pinnacle of organization like packing morning of trip! 😉 I also had a justification planned just in case I forgot any perfume: “It’s because there’ll be so much to sniff in New York!”
Packing for trips is one of my great thrills in life! My other great thrill is choosing perfume, so when their powers combine, it’s some Captain-Planet-level stuff. Of course, not to make it sound more exciting than it really is, my strategy is always exactly the same. It’s always one neutral or casual scent (depending on whether I’m traveling for work), one sexy scent (for me to huff in my hotel room while watching the news and working on PowerPoints late at night), and one scent that I either haven’t warmed up to or need to spend time learning to understand (no better time to force yourself to give something a chance than when you’re isolated and have no other option). Oddly, that third scent is usually the one that gets worn most, but almost universally never gets worn again after the trip.
Now you’ve got me imagining Captain Planet huffing sexy scents in the hotel room. I hope you’re proud of yourself.
I’ve seen Black Vetyver Cafe show up in a few places since reading your post – I’ll have to try this one sometime. But most importantly – HAVE FUN!!!!
