Dailies 08/15/14 and Giveaway Winner

Sorry for the recent lack of Dailies, y’all! I’ve spent most of this week dealing with $500 worth of fraudulent charges on my card. The shmuck didn’t even have the decency to spend it on perfume!

Daily Fragrance: Etat Libre d’Orange Bijou Romantique. I got a record-breaking three compliments on this yesterday, and today is still young. There’s something seriously knee-weakening about that sweet iris note.

Daily Lip: Meow Meow Tweet Vegan Cocoa Butter Lip Balm in Tangerine Lime. Meow Meow Tweet is my very favorite of all those natural, small-batch Brooklyn brands for their excruciatingly cute packaging and surprisingly reasonable prices. The balms are very waxy, and create a good barrier from the elements.

Daily Game: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. The newest and funniest Zelda. Deeply satisfying gameplay and Nintendo’s usual killer dialogue.

My random.org drawing selected the 14th comment as the Atelier Cologne Rendez-Vous giveaway winner, which was Knesia H! Congratulations, Knesia! Please email me to claim your prize. Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway!

Daily Fragrance: L’Artisan Parfumeur Bois Farine, for the weekly Now Smell This community project. You’re supposed to wear a Hermes fragrance or a Jean-Claude Ellena creation, so I went with the enchantingly creative Bois Farine. Bois Farine was famously inspired by the Ruizia Cordata tree, whose branches smell like flour. But to me, Bois Farine has always smelled like peanut butter. My brother is allergic to peanuts, so Bois Farine is basically my personal forbidden fruit. I will never forgive L’Artisan if they discontinue this.

Daily Nail: Clinique 70 & Sunny. This manicure may have been inspired by the Pokemon Yellow cartridge. Perfect egg yolk color, typical yellow polish streakiness. All Lacquered Up just posted her top yellow polishes; I think I might need OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana.

Daily Game: Pokemon Yellow. Please join me in a moment of silence for my beloved Nintendo 3DS, which left our cruel world on Wednesday after extensive water damage. You were a good, brave 3DS. May you frolic with Mario, Link, and Pikachu in the Nintendo Elysian Fields.

In the absence of my trusty companion, I’ve been kicking it majorly old-school with my old Gameboy Color and Pokemon Yellow. As much as I’m enjoying those 1999 graphics, I’ve decided to save up for a replacement 3DS (although the original can never be replaced in my heart) by selling off a few perfumes. I have the discontinued Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Mokha and the upcoming Josie Natori perfume, both 50 ml and never opened. Please note that this is a different bottle of Vanille Mokha than the very-much-opened bottle seen in yesterday’s Dailies. Please email me if you’re interested in either!

Daily Fragrance: Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Mokha. My all-time favorite CSP scent. The drydown is a basic, overly sweet vanilla, but the opening is the most realistic freshly-ground-coffee-beans accord I’ve ever smelled in a perfume. It’s discontinued, because of course it is.

Daily Body Product: Dylan’s Candy Bar Chocolate Cupcake Body Cream. Another discontinued beauty. Dangerously close to the smell and texture of Pillsbury chocolate frosting. Someday I will accidentally spread it on cupcakes.

Daily Bobblehead: Marceline The Vampire Queen. I’m visiting my parents in Maryland, where I keep my surprisingly extensive bobblehead collection. Marceline is Adventure Time’s sassiest vampire. I feel like we haven’t had a Marceline episode in forever, you guys.

Daily Fragrance: Sweet Anthem Juliet. American women are already a rarity in the perfume industry (except in indie perfumery, where they dominate. Get it, ladies!) But an American, female perfumer that’s also my (hilariously diminutive) height? Well, there’s only one: Meredith Smith of Sweet Anthem. This pint-sized perfume wonder makes some of the most polished indie perfumes I’ve ever tried, and at crazy-reasonable prices. The jasmine in Juliet eventually goes too sweet on me, but the mango opening is so much fun. I think I’m going to try Petra and Owl next.

Daily Tea: Pukka Love. Never again! Way too much licorice for me.

Daily Lip: NARS Eros Lip Lacquer. One of my all-time favorite colors in one of my least favorite formulas. So goddamn sticky, but that gorgeous plum is worth it.

Daily Fragrance: Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme. Rose Anonyme is the perfume that convinced me to really start paying attention to Atelier Cologne. Dishy perfumer Jerome Epinette took one of the most common note combinations of the last decade (rose and patchouli) and made a neon rose and hallucinogenic strawberry scent that smells anything but average.

Daily Beauty: L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara. Oh, like you could resist a mascara named “Miss Manga”. The formula is way too clumpy for me personally (my usual mascara is CoverGirl Clump Crusher), but it’s ideal for the spiky anime lash look. Nouveau Cheap has an excellent review.

Daily Book: Sophie Dahl’s The Man With The Dancing Eyes. $7.50 at The Strand! Sophie Dahl is Roald Dahl’s granddaughter, and his influence is obvious in her charming, friendly writing. Dancing Eyes is a short, lovely story about the New York adventures of a young woman and her “loyal mongrel” Froggy. I like Sophie Dahl’s writing so much that I own both of her cookbooks despite not caring much for her recipes (very British, mostly vegetarian).
